“Ele pegou uma toalha e cingiu-se com ela. Depois colocou água numa bacia, e começou a lavar os pés dos discípulos e a enxugá-los com a toalha com que estava cingido. ” (Jo 13, 4-5)

^“So he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” (John 13, 4-5)

Ele chegou junto a Pedro e este disse “Senhor, vais lavar os meus pés? E Jesus respondeu: “Tu não sabes o que estou fazendo, depois irás compreender.” Pedro então respondeu: “Jamais lavarás os meus pés.” Jesus respondeu “se eu não os lavar não terás parte comigo.” (Jo 13, 6-9)

“Depois que lhes lavou os pés e que tomou seu manto, tendo retornado à mesa, disse-lhes: compreendeis o que fiz? Vós chamais-me Mestre e Senhor e dizeis bem, porque o sou. Se eu, pois Senhor e Mestre, vos lavei os pés, também vós deveis lavar os pés uns dos outros. Porque eu dei-vos o exemplo, para que, como eu vos fiz assim façais vós também. Em verdade, em verdade vos digo. O servo não é maior que o seu senhor, nem o enviado é maior do que aquele que o enviou. Se compreendeis estas coisas, bem-aventurados sereis se as praticardes.” (Jo 13, 12-17)

“When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” (John 13, 12-17)
